Workstation 12, Windows 10, bridged connection, host can't ping guest

Hello,

This is on a clean install of Windows 10 Pro and Workstation 12.

Host can't ping guest.

Guest can ping other devices on LAN.

Guest can ping another guest on same host.

I checked this thread Windows 10, Workstation 10, no LAN bridge , none of the solutions worked.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Solved by removing or disabling the Citrix DNE LightWeight Filter from the network adapter.

I'm running Windows 10 "Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10240]"

I have been able to create VMs on the NAT network, and access them from the host in the past, but something breaks after a while.

I was able to use "reset to defaults" button to get a new NAT network defined, and I can ping guest connected to the NAT network.

However, if I change the NAT network to use the same IP I used before, it doesn't work again.

Here's what the NAT settings were that worked, but broke mysteriously...

172-NAT-config.png

Pinging the guest IP from the host fails, but used to work.

The guest can ping out...

So I reset defaults:

New defaults are defined

Guest gets new IP on power-up:

Host can ping the guest on new IP:

But if I change the NAT IP back to 172.16.13.0/24 it won't work.  Werid.  About to upgrade to Workstation 12.1, which I just found...

Did upgrading to 12.1 work for you? I installed directly to 12.1 and have similar symptoms with NAT, except resetting to defaults does not restore functionality.

In case anyone from VMware is following, here are some addition details that may be relevant. From my guests, I can ping the virtual gateway and DHCP servers but cannot from the host, though oddly I do get a DHCP address on my host. Additionally, if I try to establish a connection from the host to a guest, netstat shows the SYN was received. I have not done any full packet captures, but the issue seems may be how the virtual adapter is receiving data from the virtual network.

Did you disable this in the VMware Workstation on on your Win 10 Network Adapter?  I'm having the same issue with a VM, From the guest I can ping thru out the network, the internet, hell I can even portforward and remote into it externally from work.  However from the Host I can't ping or remote into it.

Did you enable icmpv4 on the Windows Guest Firewall?

I had the same issue. After booting up the host everything worked well. After a while the network connection of the guest systems did not have any network connection anymore. Solution is here:

After upgrading fom VMWare Workstion 11 to 12/ 12.1 VMWare changed the Bridged Network Setting in the VMNet Network Editor (run it as administrator):

It changed the settings to "Automatic" vs. "Auto-Bridging". By this autobridging VMWare selected the wrong network card.

The solution is to define the network card manually to the network card of your desire (e. g. local network):
