Slow Win10 performance on OSX 10.11 Fusion 8

Wondering if anyone has very unresponsive and lagging performance running Windows 10 Pro on Fusion 8 with OSX 10.11.

I use a MBPro (Late 2013) 15" Retina with external 4K monitor, resolution is great but the performance of tabbing, moving the mouse, opening & closing programs is crippling.

On Fusion 7 with the same hardware i had Win 7 running perfectly, it did require a vmware hardware downgrade to 10 for it to work.

Have tried the same method on Win 10 but still not running as smooth as i am sure it can, anyone got any advice?

Thanks in advance!

I have a similar experience on my MacBook Air.  I've tried giving it more memory, more CPU, but neither has helped.  Once the guest starts it seems ok for a while but it seems to get slower and slower until it's unusable.  I'm primarily using it for Visio and have tried windows, full screen on one monitor and full screen across both.  I also turned off sharing and it made no difference.  I did not have this issue with Fusion 7/Win 10.

Physical drive emulation is broken in Fusion 8. Windows Event Log contains dozens of entries about I/O problems. Virtual disks are fine.

sounds like exactly what's happening to me, hopefully there is a fix coming!

I'm also experiencing this on Fusion 8 and OSX 10.10.5 on a MBPro (Late 2013) 15" Retina using multiple external monitors.  In Windows 10, pressing ALT-Tab to switch windows sometimes takes multiple seconds to show the list of windows.  Mousing over running programs in the task bar takes multiple seconds to show the thumbnail of the program.  Raw CPU processing speed feels ok; I think the slowdown is specifically in the video driver and/or graphics subsystem.  My VM settings are 4 processor cores, 10,000 MB memory, 2048 MB shared graphics memory, "Accelerate 3D graphics " is on, "Battery life" is set to "always use high performance", full resolution for Retina is off.

I'm not entirely sure if this is the fault of Fusion or Windows 10, but I haven't seen Windows 10 behave this way on real hardware.  When I first start the VM it usually runs fine.  Over time switching between programs or viewing their thumbnails becomes slower and slower until I have to shut down the VM, quit Fusion, and start it all up again to make it usable.

I'm having the same problem on OS X 10.10.5. Macbook Air early 2015.

Slow response in Windows 10 on Fusion 8. Especially in Outlook 2013. Performance was acceptable in Windows 8.1 on Fusion 7.

Have tried adding more cpu and memory without any effect.

Adding these settings was helpfull in my case:

Guest OS's get unusably slow after a few hours / after restoring a snapshot

mainMem.backing = "swap"

scsi0:0.virtualSSD = 1

MemTrimRate = "0"

sched.mem.pshare.enable = "FALSE"

MemAllowAutoScaleDown = "FALSE"

I have been running the Windows 10 Insider Preview since November 2014 using Parallels 10 -- without a single compatibility or performance issue.

Since the Parallels 11 Pro upgrade cost is less than the Fusion Pro upgrade cost AND the performance is more stable, I don't plan on upgrading to Fusion 8.

This is also happening on the Windows Vmware Workstation 12. The performance of Windows 10 guests is almost a no go for daily work...

I have the same problems, performance of Win 10 on VMWare Fusion 8 is very bad. Switching between windows sometimes takes several seconds.

Same problem here - and since the Windows 10 update that came down about a week ago it's worse, UNC queries to \\vmware-host\ are slow/failing as well.

I'm about to switch to something else since Win10 is so slow on Fusion 8.

VMware - any news?

Thanks

I am also noticing performance degradation between Fusion 8.1 and Windows 10 (specs below).

Turning off Mirrored Folders sped it up considerably, but problems certainly arose after the 8.1 Fusion upgrade.

Mid-2015 15" MacBook Pro

16GB RAM / 1TB ePCI SSD

El Capitan 10.11.2

Professional Version 8.1.0 (3272237)

VM: Windows 10 x64

PS: This has become a familiar sight in Windows 10 x64 when opening, renaming, or deleting items in Shared Folders with Fusion 8.1 (see below). Very laggy when attempting to manipulate any data within Shared Folders (i.e., Desktop, Documents, etc.)

Meanwhile, tested the same behavior running with Windows 8.1 x64 and there is absolutely no legginess at all with Shared Folders in Fusion 8.1.

I'm curious whether this issue crept up in Fusion 8.1, a Microsoft update, or was exacerbated by one over the other.

I'm afraid Shared Folders is bunk until VMware and/or Microsoft fix the problem...

Resolved the issue. The 8.1 update installed two copies of VMware Tools in Windows 10. Uninstalling both copies, restarting, reinstalling VMware Tools resolved the issue.

Tried that.  Did not work.  Having the same issues.  When I first boot up the server all works fine then after 10 or 15 minutes its to slow to be usable.  I just shut everything down and restart.  Its becoming a pain.

That's not working for me either.

I am having the same issue. Found this:

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/522050?start=0&tstart=0

Basically disable 3D Acceleration in settings. Works pretty well, stops that stutter, but I still find the performance god awful compared to Fusion 7. I'm currently running 8.1

Another fun discovery, I only experienced this issue after a fresh install of El Capitan. My upgraded El Cap instance (from 10.10) didn't have this issue, but I am not sure what's different here.

I am continuing to look into it.

My problem was on El-Capital and is due to the "Shake mouse pointer to locate" setting in accessibility.

When the mouse moves quickly, El-Capitan zooms up the pointer which must confuse VMWare somewhat. After that point, the pointer goes really slow in VMWare. Virtual machine seems to need rebooting after turning the offending option off.

For me it seems like the VMWare tools mouse link is breaking!

Turning off 3D Acceleration makes a lot of difference to the overall performance; thanks! I wonder if that is just the amount of RAM being used up - I only have 8G in my 13" MBP!

My problem with the mouse seems to (so far) be fixed by turning off the use of the retina resolution in the guest machine!
