vsphere6 storage reports

I'm looking for the storage report in vsphere web client: I select an object, monitor but I do not find the storage report.

Even with the vsphere client 6.0 the storage view is not present.

It seems that the plugin is not installed

Hello,

we are facing the same issue after upgrading from VCenter 5.5 to VCenter 6.0.

No Storage Reports view in the Webclient as well no Storage Views in the vSphere Client. The vCenter Storage Monitoring Plug-in is not available on the vCenter server!

My locally installed (workstation) vsphere Client shows the following warning for the Storage Monitoring Plug-in:

VMware vCenter Storage Monitoring Service, VMware Inc. 5.5

Disabled

Storage Monitoring and Reporting

The plug-in failed to load on server(s) XXX due to the following error: Could not load file or assembly 'VI, Version=5.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7c8-0a434483c7c50' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file.

Regards,

Manuel

Bump...

We are also experiencing the lack of Storage Monitoring service after upgrading 5.5 to 6.0.

Same exact error as above:  Plugin failed to load on server(s) blahblah; Could not load file or assembly 'VI, Version=5.5.00, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken [blahblah] or one of it's dependancies.  System cannot find file specified...

Hopefully there will be a quick work-around or resolution that doesn't require re-installing or rebuilding anything.  The in-place upgrade to 6 was already a bear.

I'm also missing the Storage Reports in the Web Client and the Storage View in the C# Client with 6.0. I'm also seeing an plugin error in C# Client.

The plug-in failed to load on server(s) xxxxx due to the following error:

Could not load file or assembly 'VI, Version=5.5.0.0, Culture=neutral,

PublicKeyToken=7c80a434483c7c50' or one of its dependencies. The system

cannot find the file specified.

Hello,

I've got an answer from the Support. Storage Reports/Storage View does not exist anymore in VCenter 6!

Now they have updated this information:

https://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere6/doc/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-60-release-notes.html#featur...

The plugin is only for the older VCenter versions! If you don't need any previous version of the VI Client, uninstall it!

Best Regards,

Manuel

I am unable to uninstall the plugin. If I attempt to unregister the "com.vmware.vim.sms" extension through the MOB page, I receive a "NotFound" message.

Thank you,

Stephen Price

Is there anything that mirrors Storage Views functionality in vSphere 6?

I am experiencing the same issues since upgrading the vcenter 6.0, any other ideas how to remove this plugin?

I have tried to remove the plugin as normal, still no luck.

Thanks

David.

We were using the storage reports view to audit for forgotten snapshots. So far there are a couple of alternatives to see the snapshot size

1) Using Ops Manager and a custom heatmap, note the Foundation (free version for some) does not have the functionality. As we are using Foundation, this is not an option.

2) RVTools - GUI based (easier for some) but pretty basic

3) PowerCLI - yup, get use to it. (get-vm | get-snapshot | FT VM, SizeGB, Created, Name, Description)

Was anyone ever able to unregister the com.vmware.vim.sms extension without getting the "NotFound" message?

It's not obvious. Just uninstall any and all 5.5 clients on your management station

Sorry, but these three options that DO NOT provide the functionality or data that we need...

RVTools does not provide the number of VMDK/Disk in each datastore, and requires you to go outside vCenter for functionality that was once seamless.

If it exist in powercli, 1. I do not have the time to figure it out and 2. it isn't simple. I do not know about the rest of you all, but we are short on time and have more to do that we can get at.

Sorry but opsmanager was junk.

Atop that they removed the hardware status information? I keep wondering what other functionality will go away.

My opinion, but between HPE and Dell/VMware, we seem to be loosing more and more functionality in the name of profit.
