Inventory Service failing to Start

@Hi Guys,

Firstly my panic is over and fixed Smiley Happy

However I wanted to ask the forum how I managed to get myself in this position, if someone has has explanation.

So, my Inventory Service was refusing to start and I couldnt do any searches within vCenter (5.5.0.43769)... I looked into the DS log file and found lots of errors stating INTERNAL_ERROR and then complaining about corrupt log files and lsn numbers...

Anyhow I landed on the links (I cant seem to paste links into a post?) attached (thanks to Steven Kang... Thank you!) and managed to work through this and reset my Inventory Service. The end result being I can now search within vCenter and it doesnt error.

So a couple of things, if anyone can help:

- Is there more thorough testing I can do to ensure VMware Inventory Service is actually working as it should be, or is a simple search enough to test this?

- Any ideas how this potentially got corrupted? I know my vCenter was abruptly powered off a couple of weeks ago but I dont know if this is what corrupted it, as I very rarely use search... I only noticed today as I logged into Web Client and it notified me that Inventory Service wasnt reachable.

- How can I prevent this from happening again?

Thanks

Dryv!

I had face the same issue where IS was not working and all i had to do was to take a backup and re-create it to work as per KB#2040630.

Its been two months since then and i have not faced any issue for Inventory specifically.
