Inventory service still uses MS-SQL DB after upgade to vSphere6

Hi,

I just upgraded a vcenter 5.5 installed on windows 2012 which uses a MS-SQL 2008 R2 express database.

The vCenter database was converted to postgres as expected and the upgrade went fine.

I disabled the MS-SQL services on this vcenter and rebootet it.

After the reboot the inventory service did not start so the vcenter service did also not start.

I set the MS-SQL services back to start automaticly and all vmware services are starting as aspected after a  reboot.

So it seems the inventory service still uses the MS-SQL DBs in some way.

Is this aspected? I wanted to delete all MS-SQL related programms an this vcenter.

Hi there,

Dumb question I know but I'll ask it anyway - you haven't by chance in the past made the "vCenter Service" dependent upon the SQL service. This use to be a fix to prevent the vCenter service starting before SQL was ready so just wondering if it was implemented in your environment.

Also as an FYI I'm pretty sure that the "Inventory Service" is dependent on the "vCenter Service" not the other way round Smiley Happy

Thanks and kind regards,

Glen
