vRO workflow inputs

I would like to import an excel spreadsheet so that I can use the excel spreadsheet data in some javascript code.

How can I import it? What are the options and what works best?

If I import a file as part of a workflow, does it get stored somewhere in the vRO appliances local file system?  Can I read and write files from that location wherever it is?

It may be easier with the newer XSLX format. Just google for a javascript parser and test.
