Problem importing Parallels 10 Windows 10 Image

So, same error each time I try to import.  It gets about 85% the way through, and I run into this:

I've rebooted the VM a few times in Parallels - tried uninstalling Parallels tools, but still no luck.

I know the i8042prt.sys has something to do with the PS/2 mouse port, which of course my machine doesn't have - but not sure what to make of this, and haven't seen this error listed anywhere.

Trying something.. Noticed when I booted up the VM in Parallels, it said the keyboard driver was "Lenovo Thinkpad PS/2 Keyboard".  Note, this is on a mid 2012 27" i7 iMac with standard USB keyboard.ling b

I've tried rolling back the keyboard driver to "Standard PS/2 Keyboard Driver" and will see how that responds in the conversion. Will update if it works.

Nope.. No dice.. Same error..

It seems that driver location is the location for a 32bit install. Everything in the 64-bit DriverStore has an "amd64" in the folder name. Is the converter not detecting the correct OS type?

Any advice?

Hi tcp100,

Welcome to Fusion forum and thanks for reporting this problem.

As I could not reproduce your problem, could you please upload your vmware.log ? Thanks.

I have the same issue.  I've attached the log with the errors in it.  OS X 10.10.5, fusion 8.  Trying to import a Parallels 10 Windows 10 VM.

I have the same issue.  I've attached the log with the errors in it.  OS X 10.10.5, fusion 8.  Trying to import a Parallels 10 Windows 10 VM.

Would you please also upload your vm log file? It resides in your VM bundle. You cloud get it by the following steps:

1. Select the VM in Virtual Machine Library.

2. Select 'show in finder' in the context menu.

3. Select 'Show Package Contenst' in the context menu

4. Find the vmware.log file and upload it.Smiley Happy

I don't think I can provide that.  Since the machine doesn't import successfully, it never gets added to the virtual machine library and consequently I cannot extract the vmware.log file.  Is there another way to find the log file?

It is store in ~/Documents/Virtual Machines folder if you don't change it during your import process. Could you try that path? Thanks.Smiley Happy

You are quite likely putting in a lot of effort for naught.  If your VM was upgraded to Windows10,

you will find that you cannot activate it!!

I imported two Windows10 VMs from Parallels.  The import was completely successful for both.

However, I cannot and have yet to find a way to get them activated.  Luckily I had one of the

Windows 8.1 VMs that was an upgrade source, imported it into Fusion and reactivated it,

and then upgraded to Windows10 which then activated.

I am in trouble with the second Windows10 VM as I no longer have its Windows8.1 source.

Unless some one here has some clue (I have posted another thread that has received no response)

you are just spinning your wheels for something that won't work any way.

The people at Microsloth are clueless as to how to resolve the issue at first level help (they really have

no clue as to what virtualization is), and the next tier support currently has waiting times of 2-3 hours.

It seems as to how the upgrade/activation cycle is working with Windows10, you get one shot at activation

and that is it!!!!

Edited addition:

What was odd, was that the Windows8.1 VM imported from Parallels was activated without doing anything:

No re-entering product key, no phone call activation, not even the need to click on anything in the 8.1 VM

to activate.  It seems it was just magically activated or never lost activation status.

I ran into this same issue and I was able to fix it by creating the folder it was looking for and copy that missing file into it.

On my machine, i8042prt.sys was in c:\windows\system32\drivers. So I created a folder called keyboard.inf_93b1c41f in c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository and then I copied i8042prt.sys into it. Then I shut down the VM in Parallels, and the import worked flawlessly in Fusion 8.

Note: You will have to edit permissions on the file repository folder in order to create a new folder within it. Just right-click the folder, security, edit, add your user account with full permissions.

Hope this helps.

Copying the file did the trick - perfect. Thanks a lot 🙂
