VMplayer 7.1.2 problem on Windows 10

I just updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and VMplayer 7.1.2 build-2780323 running Windows XP Mode gives the following message "This system is not allowed to run "Windows XP Mode". The virtual machine will now power off.". It was running fine under Windows 7. I tried installing VMplayer again and it gives the same message.  I tried Ubuntu 12.04 Tools in VMplayer under Windows 10 and it ran ok as it did under Windows 7.

Any ideas what I need to do other than drop back to Windows 7?

I know this doesn't help you, but...

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 PRO on both my desktop and laptop.  My Vmware Player version on my laptop is 6.0.7, desktop is 7.1.2.  After the upgrade to Windows 10, the laptop Windows XP machine still runs OK.  The desktop machine gives the exact same message you're getting.  It is the exact same XP image on both machines.

I am going to continue digging to try to find a solution as I have applications in that machine that MUST be able to run.  I can't simply install a new XP machine.  It appears that Vmware Player won't allow it for XP anyway.

Best regards - David

Windows Virtual PC with Windows XP Mode is not supported on Windows 10.

Your options are to not upgrade if your software is important to you.

Migrate to Hyper-V or Oracle VirtualBox and install Windows XP in one of those Hypervisors and use your software there. This would require providing your own Windows XP license.
