Monthly average for a given metric

Hello,

Is it possible to create a widget that would show monthly average for a given metric?

Now I have a widget that shows like below:

Untitled.png

I wold like Network | usage Rage(KBps) to show monthly average and not just value of last probe.

I'm using vCAC  - 5.8.2 Build 1885282

View widget is only available in 6.x, not 5.x. Therefore, the vcops-custom UI would not have this widget since that is a legacy 5.x web service.

Typically, you can set the range of view of metrics to that of the past 30 days either through the dashboard or widget settings.

If you are referencing a 'view', you would change the view time range for it to reflect in your widget.

You would not use a resource or now OBJECT widget. You should use a View widget and add the view you wish to observe. Views are necessary to show historical, trending, moving average, transformative data in the form of a grid in a dashboard. So, make your view or use an existing, then add to View to a dashboard and away you go.

You may be able to use the scoreboard widget to show a monthly average for a specific metric of a specific object.  It's great if you have a small group of systems/metrics for which you want the average.  Maybe not the best for a large number of systems.

That won't give you an average, just a line graph with no x-y values. the only value you see is the current value and an /avg/ you'd need to just guess. That might show behavior of data in terms of increasing and descending, but it won't work for giving an actual avg.

Yeah, i guess the documentation specifically states that Period Length is "a length of time for statistic information that the sparkline chart shows."  Sorry for the incorrect information.

I feel like there should be a way to average the lat 8640 values with a supermetric, but that's probably what the view is doing...

Correct, SMs cannot evaluate any data point other than the last/current data point. Therefore, it cannot analyze data over periods (or simple moving avgs).

this is very interesting, because I have just been trying to figure out what the Utilisation Index value is exactly for a Top N widget. In my case the widget is based on disk latency for all my data stores, that is; top 10 data stores in terms of highest data store latency. Whilst I had the understanding that the Top N was showing me the highest latency observed for the "Period Length" chosen, this didn't add up and after further cross checking I have confirmed (couple of times) that it is a average of the values for the Period Length. Which is in contrast to the documentation about being an aggregate. I would be very interested to see if this can be verified by someone else, as they (aggregate vs average vs maximum) can have different conclusions in relation to performance and capacity. Harry.

You can do this avg of data points using a View.
