Windows 8.1 VM can't upgrade to Windows 10 - VMware SVGA 3D driver incompatible

Trying to upgrade my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 via Windows Update fails because VMware SVGA 3D driver incompatible with Windows 10.  Uninstalled VMware Tools but Windows still thinks the VMware SVGA 3D driver is present.  How to fix this??

Hi,

Have a look at this blog post from Mikero‌ here:

http://www.mikeroysoft.com/windows-10-and-vmware-fusion/

It's for Fusion and upgrading to Windows 10, but I'd be surprised if the same solution doesn't work for Workstation.

edit: there's also a number of workaround discussed in this thread:

Will I be able to reserve a copy of Windows 10 using my Windows 8.1 VM?
