Lost shared folders after upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7

Is there a workaround?

I lost the shared folder capability which worked perfect with the Windows 10 Preview version.

TIA

Hi,

Uninstall, reboot and reinstall of VMware Tools normally fixes this type of issue.

Tip: Take a snapshot before doing the uninstall so that you have a known state to go back to.

Edit: Sometimes this issue also is cured by just recreating the shared folder, most likely however it is that VMware Tools needs to be reinstalled.

Will,

Un-installing and re-install did the trick.

I tried repairing the VMware tools and recreating the share without success before trying your solution.

Thank you,

Karl

I ran into this same problem after the initial upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro. After the upgrade - there was a shortcut to the VMware Shared Folders that would work fine, but could not access any folders (shared) on the Desktop, trying to download and save to a (shared) folder would not work, and the Win10 Explorer would show the root of the shared folders but could not double click to open/view, etc.

1) First tried reinstalling VMware Tools from the menu - this took care of the display issue, but not the access to shared folders.

2) So, I first completely uninstalled VMware Tools, but I created a restore point first, just in case...to uninstall VMware Tools go to: Start >Settings>System>Apps & Features, then scroll down to VMware Tools, click once, then choose Uninstall. Reboot

3) After reboot, go back to the VMware Menu and select, Virtual Machine>Reinstall VMware Tools. This will reboot once, log into windows, then tools will make some changes and you will need to log out and then log back in. After this, sharing is working fine.
