Serial Port Redirection in Horizon View...

Hi there,

Do any of you out there have requirements for Serial Port Redirection in Horizon View?

If so, could you share with me some of the specific serial devices that you would like to use along with the controlling software and any pertinent configuration information needed (eg specific baud rates or other such things)?

Also, over what sort of network links would you need to operate it, and what guest/client OS requirements would you have?

cheers

That sounds interesting.  My problem, however, is that buying 6000 replacement cards is going to be out of the question for the client and they're going to end up going back to Citrix, which does this flawlessly today. Smiley Sad

ok - so we obviously would like you to continue on your migration to vmware!!! hopefully this serial port redirection feature will really help you.

as for the unaccounted for data - this is super weird. Let me ask around tomorrow and try and figure out what might be happening here.

are there any other usb devices forwarded to the guest? do you think it could be the printers doing some kind of sync or diagnostics?

ill ask around and see if anyone here has any ideas. This is certainly not something I have ever observed or heard of before.

At first I suspected that it was like a Keep Alive for USB redirection... I can't find any docs to support that.

I personally think that it's the Teller Insight Software checking on the printer status-- online... paper status... etc, but I have no way of seeing what is happening.

Peter-- I can't PM you, but I believe you and I discussed this issue at PEX very briefly.  I also spoke with an EUC SE who had a lot of knowledge on this issue with FIS TellerInsight, but I failed to get his card.  Our channel SE is working to figure out who that was... Maybe you can point me in the right direction?  Anyways, I'm happy to provide whatever information you need to make this work for myself and the rest of the community Smiley Happy

Hi Jason,

sorry that wasn't me. Unfortunately I wasn't at PEX. It might have been Tony perhaps, he is a PM here. I will get him to try and touch base with you via a private message or similar,

cheers

Bank here.  We have a few different models of USB / COM emulated devices (PIN Pads) that we can't get to work in View 5.x

Do / will this work in View 6.x?

So we recently added Serial Port Redirection - you will need Windows Clients v3.4 or later and Horizon View 6.1.1 or later. Earlier builds don't support explicit serial port redirection.

I have tested with many pin pads etc and they do work. But, we haven't been able to test with a lot of banking software as it is often proprietary or requires the banks mainframes to work - so, whilst I would expect it to work, it's not necessarily been tested and so I can't say for certain. If there are issues though,we would want to investigate because it should work...

just make sure you don't forward the devices using usb redirection, and use the com port redirection feature instead,
