External RAID monitoring for ESXi Servers with HP Smart Array Controller

Hi,

Just looking for a tool or application that will enable me to monitor the health of RAID of an ESXi host with an HP Smart Array Controller on an external Machine.

I attempted to use Intels Web RAID Manager but it refuses to see the ESXi hosts, even though I believe I have set it up correctly (ie Host has the Provider and CLI .VIB's installed, host files configured on the host as well as on the machine that I want to monitor the RAID from)

Any suggestions of where I have gone wrong or another application would be great.

I am able to see the health of the RAID via the hard ware TAB in the vSphere client and via CLI commands but I want to see this via a GUI application.

Thanks,

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

which Smart Array controller (type/model) is in use? In general you can view the health via the iLo webinterface for example.

Hello,

I recommend HP Insight Control, if you have a large infrastructure uses this software.

HP Insight Control

You can see the health status of all hardware, firmware versions as you can even update firmware through the Virtual Center.

But if you do not want to complicate or have a small infrastructure, configurate alerts for hardware and sends you alerts on mail or SMTP.

Regards

Daniel

The controller is a Smart Array P440AR, as for iLo we don't have a license for it, does that mean I can't use the web interface?

It should present basic health data even without a licence, the webinterface of the iLo should be available and you may also view the system logs via the webinterface.

But an iLo license is always worth it as you can run remote KVM/console. iLo usually uses a dedicated network port, so you may need to configure and connect that first.
