[Q] Cannot start any VM - internal error [SOLVED]

Hallo,

I installed Workstation 8 and cannot start any VM - neither ones created earlier nor new ones. Powering the machine on gives me an "internal error".

My Specs: Win 7 64bit (SP1), Core i7  2600K with 8GB Ram

The vmware log:

I marked out the error.. I tried to reinstall, clean.... nothing helped.

Oddly I can use the player app to run all VM´s without problem....

Any solutions?

Thanks in advance

ricstc:

Thanks ! 'm so glad I tried this simple step before doing anything more complicated or time consuming.

I was receiving the error VMware player error while powering on: internal error.  One lucky break was that it was occurring for all VMs. So I knew I didn't have a single broken VM.

Simply exiting VMWare Player, right-clicking its shortcut, and choosing Run as Administrator was all it took.

Cheers & thanks for that easy and quick fix!

I've got a similar issue with Vmware Player 7.2.1 and I realized vmware hasn't worked with my overclocked settings. I guess there is a problem with CPUID because windows 8.1 recognizes in "System" my processor running at 25.50 GHz!!!! Actually, I've got the a i7-5930K running at 4.0 GHz with DDR4 running at 2800 MHz, both in a motherboard ASRock X99 Extreme 6/ac. Every time I want to use VMware, I must to go to BIOS and put everything in Stock (3.5 GHz and 2133 MHz), which is a big inconvenience. Does anybody know what could be done to bypass this issue, so I could use the vmware with my overclock settings?

Thanks,

Felipe

You just need to check the VMWare workstation service, try restarting it. It will solve your issue.

One of the reason for this error can be, VMware Player needs updates. For me it worked when I followed below steps

1. Uninstall VMWare Player

2. Reinstall VMWare Play

3. After step2 when I tried to open VMware, it prompted for Linux updates to CentOS, select option to update same.

Reopen VMPlayer, will help you to open you VMware

In my case it is solved,

When I go to task manager --> Process --> VM Processes and right click to do end process tree.

And I also restarted VMWare Authorization services.

This worked for me.

Everyone says '(re)Start the VMWare Authorization Service', but the truth is a little deeper, from what I've gather, and is why the error message is so generic.

This applies to VMWare Workstation and other paid products, I dunno about VMWare Player.

It is about licensing. I switched from hosting my virtual machines on my workstation to a dedicated server I could remote into. So, I installed VMWare Workstation on the new Server, and started to have at it - but ran into this issue. Once I realized the *old* installation was not completely removed, still having this service, through human or technical error, I quickly cleared up the problem. It seems the VMWare Authorization Service can either communication on your LAN or to VMWare Servers, and if your license is flaky, or if there is a question of seats used, you will get this message.

IMHO, no facts or technical data to back this up.
