We are currently using Workstation 10. Will there be a support of Windows 10 or do we have to upgrade to Workstation 11?
Since Windows 8 has the similar Windows kernel as Windows 10 Tech Preview, select it as the operating system. Make sure you select x64 or x86 according to the ISO you downloaded.
Here is an blog which have a way to install windows 10 (TP)on workstation 10. have a look : http://pupuweb.com/windows-10-vmware-workstation-10/
Officialy workstation 11 is made for installing windows 10. But you can try the blog and enjoy your windows 10.
Thank you Anjani for your quick answer and link!
We already made Windows 10 work inside Workstation 10. You wrote "Officially workstation 11 is made for installing windows 10" - does that mean that WS10 will never be?
Thats great . if you made it. :smileycool:
I am not so sure. May be in next updates of workstation 10 they can provide this feature. Can't Guarantee this. Also no news from vmware till now.
Ah I see. In that case I just wait until VMware sheds some light on this.
Marked your post as helpful and followed you on twitter :smileycool:
Hi,
If we look at the past then no I do not expect Workstation 10 to add specific fixes for new operating systems.
VMware has made several changes to Workstation 11 in order for Windows 10 to work smoothly.
VMware Workstation 11.1.2 Release Notes
If you look at Workstation 10 -albeit the release is older- these fixes are not in place, in fact 10.0.6 just patches the same issue as in 11.1.1
VMware Workstation 10.0.6 Release Notes
If a new release comes out with the Windows 10 fixes are back ported, if not.. you got your final answer. But I would not be holding my breath on that one.
See also their product life cycle paper here: https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/support/Product-Lifecycle-Matrix.pdf
Workstation already passed "End Of Availability" and only has a few more months of General Support left (until September this year)
In general there's not much motivation for VMware to add support for a new OS to a non current version of their product.
Updates for Workstation 10 are mostly maintenance releases from now on (like the security issue in 10.0.6)
