Newbie Alert! NSX REST API Getting Started Lab Simulation

Hi Forum,

Is anyone running NSX within VMware workstation to experiment with NSX based interaction with python scripted REST API calls?

I appreciate it might seem a little obsessive, I like to study pretty much all the time etc. so I was after something I can carry around on my laptop.

Performance secondary, proof in principle primary!  If you have read down this far, thanks for your time.

Interesting in learning if and how others have done this.

Many thanks in advance!!

Nik.

I currently run NSX for vSphere on my Macbook Pro within VMware Fusion, specifically to develop my Python scripts. I only have 16GB RAM so I needed to enable memory overcommit in Fusion to be able to run up the NSX Manager, vCenter appliance and 2 esxi hosts.

So yes its technically possible to do if you want Smiley Happy

Where do you get the downloads for NSX VM's inorder to test on a workstation or lab environment? I know they have the hosted eval, but will that allow you to access rest api and you are not able to test with nexus environment.

As far as I know you need to have purchased NSX (or be a vExpert) for you to be able to download the NSX Manager etc.

I know the 1424 HOL has a REST client installed within Firefox so you can test out the API, but I am not sure if Python is installed or not within the labs.
