Issues with installing the VSphere web client 6.0

I'm a noob to ESXI

I recently acquired a T610 server from the company that I work for, and I have installed ESXI 6.0 on the server to spin up several VM servers.  I've also installed the VSphere client on another remote machine, and I've discovered that some features are depreciated and to use the recommended web client.  I then discovered that I would need to download the vmware vSphere server to get the webclient tool.  I've tried installing it on my Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Server 2012 R2 vm's that I have spun up from Virtualbox.  The server installation options are different from the previous tutorials that I've seen on ESXI 5.0 and 5.5 in that the webclient is not listed, but I was able to run it straight from the media.  It shows in Programs and Features that it installed, but I have no program groups for it, and I can't configure it.

The tutorials I've seen have been for 5.0 and 5.5, and when I've tried them on 6.0, I can't get past the installation issue.

In order to use the Web Client you need to install/deploy vCenter Server (either on Windows, or as a virtual appliance). The Web Client can only be used to connect to vCenter Server, and can not connect toan ESXi host.

It's not made very clear, and someone else had a similar issue here.

It's (unfortunately) a fact that VMware adds new features only to the Web Client, so I assume that sooner or later they will drop the Windows based Client and provide a Web Client for both, vCenter Server as well as ESXi hosts. But for now the Web Client is only available with vCenter Server.
