can vrops find vm sprawl in an environment or see which servers are being used or not?
well, yes
Under "Reports", run the VM Idle Report.
This will be a good starting point...
Hi!
If you want to find the number of VM's deployed from a certain date or time, you can go to World-Operations-All Metrics and under the metric selector collapse Virtual Machine and select count. This will give you a graph of how many VM's have been deployed over a period of time.
The VM list report also gives you the following information; you need to select the vcenter server and click on Reports and run the Virtual Machine List report.
Object | Configured vCPU | Configured CPU | CPU Limited Demand | CPU Contention | Configured Memory | Memory Limited Demand | Memory Contention | Total Virtual Disk Space Configured | Disk Space Total Used | Disk I/O Demand | Disk I/O Contention | Network I/O Usage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hope this helps.
I needto get report for vms idle or not idle for X months. how can I run this report?
where are you seeing this
World-operations all metrics?
Hi!
Looks like you'll need to run different reports and then collate the information. For eg: to find out Idle VM, you can run reports by Selecting the Cluster, clicking on reports and run the report for eg: Idle VM Report.
The metric counters can go very granular, so you need to expand on the counters you need and get graphs for them.
yes but the idle vm report does not say how long vm been idle over what period of time etc... How do I get a report on say last 3 months, 6, months etc...
thank you
