host important services report

I am running the host important services report against my clusters.  It shows NTP Daemon running, but does not report the NTP server.  Is there a way to adjust this report to get this info or an update to the report?

Thanks,

GB

The vSphere hosts run the NTP client daemon to pull NTP so they're all in sync. Are you talking about monitoring the NTP Server (NIST, etc) that the hosts are using/accessing for up/down?

If you find this or any other answer useful please mark the answer as correct or helpful.

Mark,

Thanks for the response, yes I was trying to monitor up/down on the NTP daemon service.  I opened a ticket with GSS and this was the answer they gave me, which worked exactly like I wanted.

You will need to enable the "Configuration|Security|NTP Server" property in policy settings to get this in the report.

Steps to enable policy
1. Go to Administration > Policies
2. Make note of the active policy name
3. Open Policy library tab and Expand the tree
4. Select the policy which is active and click edit
5. Click on override attributes
6. Search for "configuration|security|ntp server" (you may need to collapse the right bar, the Filter search is in the top right)
7. Change the state value to local (with green check) and save.

Try generating the report after 15 minutes.

Then I needed to create an alert as well and here were the steps

There should be a few NTP Symptom definitions defined by default.  One of them is "NTP service stopped" (type: Property Symptom Definition) for Object type Host System (Property "Configuration|Security|Service:NTP Daemon|Running")

You can use this symptom definition to create an alert definition - the following documentation page is an example of how to create an alert definition:
http://pubs.vmware.com/vrealizeoperationsmanager-6/topic/com.vmware.vcom.core.doc/GUID-4C8CAF1E-2B40...
(step 4 in the alert definition process is where the symptom definition is used - in the example in the above documentation, it is step 3d & 3e)
