How to capture Block Size stats on a datastore?

Hello folks,

I am running IOMETER on some Win7 VMs with disks attached to them from NFS datastores I have created.

The iometer tests and running fine, but being asked to confirm the block size of the iometer workload to the datastores.

My iometer test parameters define a 4K block size for IO transfers to the datastores.

I am using esxtop and looking at option U for disk devices and BLKSZ, but shows no data on live display and does not export to my .csv (using batch interval capture method).

Anyone have a suggestion for how I could verify or calculate the block size of IO transfers?

Thanks,

romatlo

Romatlo,

Instead of usingesxtop have you tried looking intovscsistats to get those statistics.

Below are two very good resources for using vscsistats.

-Using vscsiStats for Storage Performance Analysis

https://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-10095

-Cormac Hogan (Getting started withvscsiStats)

Thanks,

Thank you for responding!  This looks great.

I testing now how to get the IO size for specific VMs.

I wondering how to capture these stats for a datastore.

Would you know?
