Workstation 11 and standalone converter 5.5 with a physical machine

When I run standalone converter 5.5.3 to convert a physical machine (local) the drop down menu does not give me a Workstation 11 option, only up to Workstation 10.x.  The release notes for Workstation seem to indicate that conversion support was added so I'm wondering can I standalone convert to a Workstation 10.x and use that in Workstation 11?

Welcome to the Community - I have not tried it but I would say yes - you will get a VM that is in Workstation 10 format -

Hi and thanks for the welcome in!Smiley Happy

I tried standalone convert 5.5.3 and created a version 10.x file, and it seems to work with workstation 11; but there were multiple pop ups when trying to start the virtual machine that were related to hardware, device drivers and communications.  Do you know if that would that be "typical" for a Vista Business conversion?

I'm testing to determine if I will be able to convert a legacy XP system by installing Standalone convert on it, saving the file to an external hard drive, and then running it on a new PC with workstation 11 on it.  I want to see if I need to downgrade the license on workstation from 11 to 10 to avoid any issues.  I don't have access to the XP system at this time so thought I would play around with what I have.

That might be related to the Vista - two things I would do make sure VMware Tools got installed and go through what hardware the OS is looking for and remove anything that was physical in the old machine - like HP/Dell drivers -

Yes, I had already installed VMTools.  Now I'm trying to install the drivers - seems like they are related to the portable hard drive I'm using.

Do you have any thoughts on the V10 vs. V11 in workstation and if I should consider downgrading the license when I purchase?

THANKS!

I think I see what's happening, the VMTools install is not complete.  The menu give the option of cancel VMTools installation.  I'm not sure if it's hanging or just REALLY slow.  I'll let it run the rest of the day and see if it finishes.

Thank you VERY much for your help, it is GREATLY appreciated!
