Greetings everyone. I've been trying to get on of my Dell PE R720 servers upgraded from 5.5. Everything goes fine until near the end when it continually hangs with: "Running 003.firstboot_ad_migration" on the screen. I've left it there for an hour or so and no progress made. I've been able to revert back to 5.5 without issue and tried running the upgrade from ISO bootable CD. I've pulled cards from the server all with the same result. Anyone having seem this issue?
Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.
Update on this. After reading other documents and KB articles I tried a recommendation on a simialr issue of "leaving the Domain" on the affected ESX Server.
Steps to recovery were:
Rebooted the stuck ESX server and used <Shift-R> and reverted back to 5.5.
Went into VCenter and had the ESX server leave the domain.
Rebooted the server re-ran the upgrade and it completed successfully.

Thanks, man! Encountered the same issue with Dell PE R720 today. Rollback + leaving the domain worked like a charm...
I also experienced this issue when upgrading from 5.5 to 6.0 on a PE R720. I was able to run the upgrade successfully on a host that was not joined to the domain. Do you have links to the other documents and KB you used?
Hi
I had the same issue on a two Dell PowerEdge R620 using the Dell Customized Image (VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0.update01-3073146.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A02.ISO), which was the latest version under Dell Support Downloads.
The hosts where not joined to a AD Domain,
Using the original an newer Image from VMware solved it. (VMware-VMvisor-Installer-201601001-3380124.x86_64.iso)
I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the Dell customizations or if it was a bug in the previous release.
Hi guys, I have come into the same issue. I dont understand how you to revert back to the old installation. If i restart the host and use shift-R i dont get any response.
Can someone describe to me how to perform this action.
the host was domain joined so sure its the same problem as you have had.
thanks
Ben
