Guest can't ping host OS

Hello,

I would like help getting my two Windows 7 guest OS VMs to ping the Windows 7 host. 

Background:

• Host is Windows 7 64 bit.
  
• Guests are both Windows 7 32 bit, recently converted from VPC. 
  
• I have both guests functioning normally other than this issue. 
  
• both guests are configured to use bridged network
  
• bridge network (vmnet0) is configured to use a single wireless adapter, not automatic
  

What I have tried:

• firewalls on both guest and host are turned off
  
• verified host and guests are assigned expected IPs and are on same subnet
  
• pinging from guest to guest works both ways
  
• pinging from host to both guests works
  
• guests can ping router
  
• guests can reach the internet, browse google, etc.
  
• VPN on guests are off
  
• guests can ping other PCs on network
  
• other PCs on network can ping host
  
• other PCs on network can ping guests
  
• verified vmnetbridge service is running
  
• verified adapter related registry keys
  
• I briefly had success when I was playing with enabling Internet Connection Sharing on my host's wireless adapter settings.  I could not understand how that should help, and while I was experimenting, turning it off and on, it stopped working for me. 
  
• rebooted VMs
  
• tested using both IP and name, resolving name with hosts file

I had the same issue, was going nuts, but here is how I solved it:

my setup:

Host: Windows 7 64bit

vmplayer 6

virtualbox

Guests:

VirtualBox Win2000

VM machine with WinXP

the VB was ping great to the host and all other ip's on the network, the VMware pinged gateway and other machine on the network excluding the host and the virtualbox machine.

after tinkering around will every possible configuration, I've checked the firewall on the host again, apparently it's not enough to disable the firewall (Thank you microsoft)

instead of disabling it, just create a rule and open up 192.168.1.0/24(in my case)

that solved my problem. hope it helps.

Hi All,

I ran into the exact same issue, I also have Windows 8.1 and a Atheros wireless card and attempted the driver upgrade to no avail.

Sorry in advance for the pictures, they were taken after I fixed the issue.

BUT! I found that my issue was in the configuration. I had a couple virtual networks that ended up creating a bridged network adapter for the wireless card. Because of that, the Qualcomm Atheros driver (showing up below) wasn't there and I had to pick between Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter and Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver, neither of which worked.

The network connections looked something like this except the Network Bridge wasn't unplugged.

Fix: I removed the other Virtual Networks and also deleted the Network Bridge from the Network Adapter List. that is when I could see and select the Bridge to: Qualcomm Atheros adapter.

thank you this helped me. After a reboot my VM on workstation could not pin the host or gateway. I disabled the VMnet adapters on my host machine and started working again
