Datastore expansion in storage DRS

I have problem to expand my datastore in SDRS, below is the test scenario.

1. Expand a datastore not in SDRS, successful.

2. Expand a datastore in SDRS. failed.

3. Remove the datastore from SDRS and try to expand. failed.

After I expand the LUN, I can see the additional disk space in ESXi, but when I tried to expand it, the new free space is not shown in the expansion wizard. any idea?

Hi,

How large is the datastore before expansion? And how much are you trying to expand it with? Also, which VMFS version are you running?

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin, I created a LUN with the size of 10GB and extended it to 20GB for testing purpose. VMFS version is 5.

It is strange that I can't extend the LUN in the storage cluster.

Have you tried "Entering SDRS maintainance Mode"

Remove the datastore from SDRS and disable storage io controll on the disk if you dont want to put it in SDRS maintenance mode and migrate all the vms of it. Storage IO controll will enable when you put it in SDRS clusters. You have the checkbox in the properties for datastore.

Can it be that you have VMFS 3 on that datastore? Then you wont be able to expand over 2 TB

Try to expand the Datastore from connecting a individual esx host and see...also try with disabling Storage I/O.

If the datastore is in same VMFS verion you can make the SDRS it should work.

if you are expanding LUN by going the properties f LUN and add additional space than it should expand .

can you post the imahe to understand the issue in better way.
