Suggestions to Upgrade VMware Certification : VCP 510, 410, 310 , VCP Cloud?

Hi Team,

I got the email from VMware that my listed below VMware certifications are expiring on 27th Sept 2015.

  1. VMware certified Professional - Cloud
  2. Vmware Certified Professional 5 - Data Center Virtualization
  3. VMware certified Professional 4 - Data Center Virtualization
  4. VCP on VMware Infrastructure 3

Questions:-

1. Do i need to upgrade all of these exams, if Yes, what is the path?

2. Is there any free / discount benefit available to upgrade these Exams

3. Is there any Track available as - VMware certified Professional 6 - Data center Virtualization?

I would like to go with VCP6-Cloud approach, any way i can upgrade above exams and at same time get the new certification in place i.e. VCP 6-Cloud.

Thanks

Deepak

Essentially, you can recertify by passing a VCP exam in a new discipline or by gaining a VCAP/VCIX certification in the same or a different discipline.

See here for some examples, and answers to most of your quesitons: Recertification Policy

Do i need to upgrade all of these exams?

All VCP level certifications expire, but you recertify them all at the same time by doing what I've suggested above.

Is there any free / discount benefit available?

Is there any Track available as - VMware certified Professional 6 - Data center Virtualization?

VCP6-DCV is coming soon, read more on the 2015 roadmap here: VMware Certification Roadmap for 2015

Thanks, however i still have some doubts..

1. As stated earlier my VCP 310 is going to expire - Is there an exam that i can give and re-certify by VCP 310 or in other words how can i remain my VCP 310 exam active?

2. same for VCP 410 i.e. Is there an exam that i can give to recertify and remain by VCP 410 certification

3. Same for Vcp 510 i.e. is there an exam that i can give to recertify and remain by VCP 510 certification

I also came to know about VCP - 51- delta exam..If i complete that exam will my VCP 310, 410, 510 will remains active..

Thanks

Deepak

VCP310 / VCP410 / VCP510 are the exams you passed to gain VCP3-DCV / VCP4-DCV / VCP5-DCV certifications - it's your certifications that expire.

The key part of my previous reply was "you recertify them all at the same time" - in simple terms if you recertify your VCP5-DCV then all your other VCPs will also be recertified automatically - you don't have to recertify each individual certification.

The simplest option to recertify is to pass the VCP550D exam - this will test you mostly on what was new in vSphere 5.5 compared to vSphere 5.0/5.1 - pass that one exam and all your VCPs will be recertified.

VCP550D is only available til May 8th, after that date you would have to find another route to recertification prior to your expiry date.

Ok, got it. I conclude that if i do VCP550D (Before 8th May ) then all my previous VCP certifications will get renew for another 2 years. I hope i am correct. Smiley Happy

Now, lets think further - I am looking for to complete VCP6-DCV or VCP6- Cloud (yet not decided which one to go for or i will do both)....so the question is:-

If i do not do the VCP550D exam and would like to directly go with VCP6-DCV / VCP6-Cloud exam, can i still do that without any mandatory training , are these exams publically available ? (PS:My all VCP certifications expiring on 27th Sept 2015)

whats that VCP6-DCV delta beta exam is meant for..am confused please help.

Thanks

Deepak

Yes, pass VCP550D and you're fully recertified - I did that myself back in early March.

Beta exams are now available for all VCP6 certifications, you have some time to take those or the final versions of them when they are made available prior to September 27th.

So long as you pass a VCP6 exam before September 27th you will not be required to take any training.

2V0-621D is the delta beta exam for VCP6-DCV - you can take it as you are a VCP5-DCV - passing it will update you to VCP6-DCV and recertify all you existing VCPs.

Have a look here for the detail on all VCP6 certifications and their exams: VMware Certification

Got it, to conclude -

1. If i  can go with VCP550D - Its a delta exam for 5.5 before 8th May 2015 which makes my all VCP (310, 410 &510, VCP-Cloud) certifications to renew for another 2 year and i will be having 2 years of time to go with VCP6-DCV exam without any Mandatory trainings , correct me if i am wrong.

2. If i go with VCP6-DCV or VCP6-DCV - Delta/Beta exam now or before 27th Sept (My VCP expiration date) then automatically my all certifications (VCP310 , 410, 510, VCP-Cloud) will get renewed for another 2 years of time.

3. Any Idea when VCP6-DCV is announcing?

Thanks

Thanks Scott, all my doubts are almost clear Smiley Happy

and another one now - What is the difference between VCP 6 - DCV Beta and VCP 6 - DCV delta ,Both exams are available now? I am concluding to self learn and go with VCP 6 DCV exams but not sure what is Beta and Delta means here and also i noticed we have to be authorized before going for VCP6-DCV exams; how does the authorization works?

Thanks

Deepak

There are 3 exams related to VCP6-DCV:

vSphere 6 Foundations (2V0-620) - vSphere 6 Foundations Beta Exam

VCP6-DCV (2V0-621) - VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Beta Exam

VCP6-DCV Delta (2V0-621D) - VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Delta Beta Exam

All 3 of these exams are in beta at the moment - final versions will be available soon.

To gain VCP6-DCV:

- those who are new to VMware certification have to pass both 620 and 621

- those who hold a VCP in NV/Cloud/DT have to pass 621

- existing VCP5-DCV holders can pass 621D (or 621)

621D assumes you already know vSphere 5 so it tests on the differences with vSphere 6, hence it's a "delta" exam.

All this info and the links above can be found on the VCP6-DCV page I linked to in my previous reply.

Repeating my earlier comment, as you are a VCP5-DCV and you certification doesn't expire til September, you should probably aim for 621D.

Hi,

Currently, I hold  a valid VCP5-DCV certificate and will expire on 20/1/2016. Should I proceed with 2V0-621D or 2V0-621 Exam. Also I read somewhere that If I went with 2V0-621D the score does not come up immediately and I have to wait for two monthes which will make my certificate expires.

Please advise.

Path 1 here applies to you: VCP6-DCV Certification

2V0-621D is the most appropriate exam, it tests on differences between vSphere 5 and vSphere 6, and will recertify your VCP5-DCV as well as giving you VCP6-DCV.

The final exam is scored immediately - you've probably been reading about the beta version which was not scored immediately.
