Taking vSphere 6 Class and site for VCP-5.5 DC Exam?

Hello everyone -

I have somewhat a different question - you may call it weired . I have been prepping for vcp 5,5 exam for sometime and have sufficient hands on as a day-to-day vSphere admin in an enterprise. I have a training coming up for vSphere 5.5 as part of the prerequisites. But now, as you all know - vSphere 6 is a lready out and classes are also available for it. So, I have been debating whether to attend this vsphere 6 class but register for 5.5 because I have already spend so much time and energy.

My question now is - is this even a supported path with vmware. Taking a newer class but sit for the older cert?

I don't think you can train on vSphere 6 and get certified as a VCP5-DCV - you could take and pass the VCP550 exam but you won't get certified.

Your options:

1. Get trained on vSphere 5 and pass the VCP550 exam - this will give you VCP5-DCV only.

2. Get trained on vSphere 5 and pass the VCP550 exam (as above), but then also pass the 2V0-621D exam - this will add VCP6-DCV on top of your VCP5-DCV.

3. Get trained on vSphere 6 and pass the 2V0-620 and 2V0-621 exams - this will give you VCP6-DCV only.

So, if you want to end up with VCP6-DCV, you'll have to take 1 class and pass 2 exams whichever way you look at it.

Hi,

You could take a v5.1 course and a v5.5 exam since they're both v5.x - but you can't mix a v5.x class with a v6 exam or vice versa.
