Yosemite/VMFusion issue

My screen keeps on flickering very quickly and when I click on a drop down (for example when I'm trying to choose a printer on Microsoft word), the drop down flickers and then disappears.  It won't let me choose anything.  Anyone else having this issue?  I'm on fusion 7 and the new Yosemite.  This never happened when I was Maverick and Fusion 5.

Yes, same with me.  The firmware update did not help.  Still blinking.

Actually I need to revise the earlier statement. I am now only seeing the flicker when I run a second monitor and have fusion running in full screen / maximized mode. It doesn't seem to matter if fusion is displaying on the MBP screen or the second monitor. The flicker is most pronounced when switching between fusion and native apps, although dynamic page rendering in IE has significant issues as well.

Right now I'm running fusion on the external monitor, with the window size stretched to nearly full screen and I'm not getting the flicker. So its better but still not right. It makes no sense to me why the full screen is a problem.

Im experiencing the exact same issues using Fusion 6.05. It does appear to be a handoff issue between Yosemite and the fullscreen VMware. Strangely enough, no other apps seem to have the same issue so far. Upgrading to VMware 7 is kind of a weird answer, as 7 has even more issues to content with. 6 should still work, and a fix should be made for this.

+1, with frequent unexpected closing. How can VMWare just blatantly ignore the issue on 6.0.5?!?

€45 to upgrade to 7, wow, thanks, a huge €15 discount off new price. I think it's time to look at Parallels.

Pretty funny... I actually have had great experience with Parallels.  I used Parallels at my previous company (before Fusion was standard at my current company) and I was always amazed at how stable the product was.

Exactly the same on both my MBPR's  on 10.10.1 with Fusion 6.0.5.

If you don't use fullscreen, but just max out to the edges of the display you don't get flicker, but of course lose some real estate (and performance?).

Don't want the hassle of going to v7 and potentially all the hassle of having to reactivate Windows licenses (always seems to happen!).

Is there ever going to be a fix for v6?

"...having to reactivate Windows licenses (always seems to happen!)...."

Then learn what is required NOT to need to do that. There are many ways

This fixed the flicker for me using MBP 2015 w/Retina display Yosemite and VMWare Fusion 6.0.5:

1) on Mac - right click VMWare Fusion app and select Get Info, turn on "Open in Low Resolution"

2) in Fusion - Virtual Machine Settings > Display > turn on Use Full Resolution for Retina  and Automatically Adjust Windows UI

Hope that helps.

Edit: had a few issues with the Windows task bar flashing with Chrome Beta.  Turning off Accelerate 3D Graphics fixed that.

Frank,

Many thanks that works.  Obviously the Fusion UI part now runs without Retina resolution (i.e. aliased text), but that is not a big deal.

I did find that part 2 was mandatory, even though I am running at 1440x900 on a retina mbp.

I've been having the same annoying flicker issue on a MBP and a MBAir with Fusion 6.0.5 and W7/W8. I read that upgrading to Fusion 7 may resolve the issue, but I find annoying also having to pay for an upgrade that solve the problem, I would have expected that VMware solves the issue on Fusion 6.

I have the same issue, VMWare tricked me to upgrade to Fusion Pro 6 by taking 30% off, only one or two months after they released Fusion 7 so I am reluctant to upgrade.

Many thanks Frank!  That did the trick for me.  I could also avoid the annoying flicking by staying out of full screen mode (not the best solution).  I don't plan to upgrade beyond version 6 (will consider alternatives).  I don't like the idea that VMware does not fix issues with supported versions of their products, but rather, force customers to upgrade to potentially resolve these issues, or ignore customers completely.  To me this indicated that they don't have the resources to properly support their products and apply fixes to older 'supported' versions.  It won't be long before they will not have the resources to provide the latest features and functionality and fall completely behind.

Hi.

Try settings(TOP BAR FUSION SETTINGS)

Display

Accelerate 3D Graphics turn to OFF. and un-tick full resolution for retina display.

It will cure flickering in unity but you will still experience some in fullscreen.
