Core dump partition

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how do I access whats is called the dump partition. I'm using the following command:

esxcli system coredump partition get

coredump_partition.PNG

I'm getting this output and I have no idea what to do with it or how to access it.

Seems like a physical representation of a disk.

Can anyone give me some details?

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

Hi Dan,

you may first read the followeing KBs:

This should give you an idea what a coredump partition is used for,

For accessing the partition this might help: VMware KB: Extracting a core dump file from the VMKCore diagnostic partition following a purple diag...

It's main use is for finding out what happened after a PSOD and the kernel was dumped to disk.

Pretty similar to for example the dump files found in Windows after a bluescreen (BSOD).
