Web client for ESXi

Hi,

I've just installed ESXi 5 on my bare-metal server in order to deploy instances on it.

Now I'm installing vSphere Client to log-in to the server.

Since I'm using the freeware version of ESXi, am I allowed to use the web client, and how?

I'm sorry for the newbie question, I'm new in VMware.

Thanks!

No, since to use vSphere Web Client you will need vCenter server and even if you have vCenter Server you will not able to manage your ESXi Free Hypervisor with vCenter Server, you will need a license to your vSphere host too.

Welcome to the Community,

the Web Client is only available with vCenter Server, and does not support managing an ESXi host directly. So the Windows based vSphere Client is what you'll want to use for management.

Thank you for the replies, guys!

It's a wonderful product, I already deployed a new instance.

Just one more question - when I connect to my EXSi server, it gives me a Evaluation Notice message, how do I fix that?

Thank you!

ESXi runs in a 60-day evaluation mode (with all features enabled) after installation. After entering your license key the evaluation message will disappear and the host will only allow the features covered by the license you entered. For how to license the host see VMware KB: Licensing ESXi 5.x and vCenter Server 5.x (section "Licensing a standalone ESXi host").

Hmm weird, I tought ESXi 5 is freeware, isn't it?

I don't remember seeing anything about licence within the download page.

ESXi uses the same binaries for all editions, and it's only the license key which locks or unlocks features. In order to use the Hypervisor for free you need to register to get a free license key (Download VMware vSphere Hypervisor for Free).

Excellent, everything is okay now.

It seems, that I've already generated it during the download, I just haven't seen it.

Have a nice day, guys!
