Cisco UCS mibs and snmp adapter

I'm tyring to get the snmp adapter to pull information from Cisco UCS.  I successfully loaded the snmp adapter and I can connect to UCS.  The appropriate mibs weren't loaded into vCops so I followed the instructions for importing mibs.  At first I imported them to the UI machine.  That didn't work.  I then found a couple of postings leading me to believe I'm supposed to import them to the analytics machine.  So I went through the process of importing them to the analytics machine.  Unfortunately, the SNMP adapter is not seeing the UCS mibs.  Has anybody had any experience pulling information from UCS with the snmp adapter?

What are the versions of vCOPS, SNMP Adapter and Cisco Switches you are using.

The pdf is what I used for configuration of the snmp adapter.  The other link I found also but doesn't appear to be helpful.  The link says all successfully imported MIB files should become a Resource Kind, unless a numeric value is not found in the entire tree.  So I looked through all the MIBs and didn't import some of the MIBs that looked to not meet the criteria and still none of them show up. What specifically are you supposed to do with that KB.  I opened a case with VMware and they totally didn't help.  They referred me to professional services instead of providing assistance with there product.

vCops 5.7.1 build 1166139 with the snmp adapter version 2.1.1036203.

The switches are the 6248's and 6296's with 2.1.1f firmware.

you might have to open some ports on the AnalyticsVM for that to work.

unfortunately I won't have access to my lab till next year so can't help further 😕

not that its related, but you might consider upgrading to 572 or 580

here's something I dug up from some emails I have on that

-

1. You need to copy mib files under <vcenter-ops>/user/plugins/inbound/snmp_adapter3/conf/mib folder in analytics VM;

2. Exact steps are provided in "Import MIB Files for the SNMP Adapter" section of the adapter documentation;

3. SNMP Adapter supports .mib and .my files. It doesn't support .txt files.
If you have .txt files you can change the extension to .mib or .my.
If Mib file configurations are correct and you didn't see any error logs maybe you haven't changed AdapterKind version in "describe.xml" and haven't redescribed adapter. After successful import, when you redescribe adapter from UI you should have MIB files as resource kinds.
There is also some info about importing and using MIB files in <vcenter-ops>/user/plugins/inbound/snmp_adapter3/conf/SNMP Adapter.doc file.

hope that helps!

I followed the instructions according to the pdf.  There were no errors in the mib-import log.  The mib's I imported were straight from Cisco and I didn't change them in any way as far as file extension goes so they are .my.  I also changed the adapterkind version by incrementing it by one and then went into the custom user interface and hit the describe button.  It successfully incremented the describe version number of the snmp adapter in the custom user inferface.  When I look under resource kinds the only thing that shows up are the default mibs that come with vCops out of the box.  When I look at the log for the snmp adapter in the custom user interface there is nothing in it.  It's completely blank.

Thank you for the help you are providing

So a year later and I'm still unable to get the vcops snmp adapter to pull any information from UCS.  I add the mib files, run the updateMibs.sh command, and redescribe successfully.  When I go to add one of the fabric interconnects in vcops I see some of the mibs I uploaded, but the Cisco UCS specific ones aren't there.  Things like ip-mib.my, host-resources-mib.my, disman-event-mib.my are there, but things like Cisco-Unified-Computing-Diag-mib.my aren't there.  When I look in the mib-import.log I see the following error for the Cisco CS specific mibs - File with name ISO-3166. and extensions .my, .mib, .MIB, .MY does not exist.  I thinking that the mibs for UCS will not load without that being addressed.  I cannot find this mib anywhere.  I opened cases with VMware and Cisco and was told to take a hike.  If people have gotten this to work where did you find the ISO-3166 mib file from?

I don't think it works.  I have had an open support case with them since Dec/2014.

The last update I got from VMWare was.....

the developers were able to reproduce the issue,

but have not come back with anything that we can use to troubleshoot or work around currently.

I will let you know what I hear back
