I have had this happen to me several times. Guest is Win7 64 bit. Workstation stops accepting input and "frosts" over.
Windows asks if you want to end the process, but you can avoid this.
- hover the mouse over the vmware icon at the bottom of the screen
- choose the frosted window
- click on "suspend"
- give it a few minutes to work.
- eventually it supends.
- close workstation
- open it again and resume the guest - it works and accepts input.
