VM Setup - Newbie Question

Hi,

Here's a simple 'newbie' question.... I'm fairly new to the VM world so please be gentle.

I've got hold of an old HP ProLiant DL320 G6 Server which I'm just going to set up at home to 'play' and learn.

It has an Intel Xeon E5520 2.27 GHz Processor (4 Cores) & 36 GB RAM

At the moment I have installed SBS 2011 in VM: 1 CPU with 2 Cores - 15GB RAM

I'm also going to install Windows Server as a Data-server (just to learn & play) again with 1 CPU with 2 Cores - 15GB RAM

Here's the bit I don't understand... I'm then going to install Windows 7 or 8 so I can allocate the remaining 6 GB RAM but if the other VM's are using the CPU and all 4 Cores what resources can I allocate to the final VM installation?

Kindest regards,

Mike

Welcome to the Community - That is the beauty of virtualization - the ESXi hypervisor does an excellent job of scheduling memory and CPU  resource so you can over subscribe them - since this is lab setup you should not have any issues -

Thank you... I'm just getting my head round to understand & appreciate that the CPU & RAM are 'virtual' and can be shared between machines!
