vmware tools -- specific version only install

I need to update / re install vmware tools and only use a specific version. All are 64bit and I am using the 64bit install exe not the MSI.

Problem is that I cannot find a way to install vmware tools from a local repository or networkshare so I can use the same version on all of the csv list I have.

Basically connect to the vm push or pull down the install and execute silently..

Unless I'm mistaken, if all of your hosts are at the same patch (build) level, the version of VMware tools should be the same when you update one of those VMs. So when you "Update-Tools" it should be at the latest version for that host, and if the hosts are all the same build, the tools version should be the same.

You would think but since we have to keep at a certain patch level that is at time behind the vmware tools are not all on the same version. In a high frequency environment this seems to happen more than not.

So I am stuck batch updating some servers by hand but want to either use PowerCLI or VUM to use only a specific version.

Right now I am on *cough* win 2003 servers and some versions have been unstable but 9.4.10 is fine so I need to make sure only that version is installed.

that help some?

You can also use Update manager for VMware tools.

yup but I have not found a way to make it use only a certain version. Once it's Ok on the system it goes no further say the latest is 9.4.10 and it's at 9.3.9 it wont update because the version 9.3.9 is good enough.  Least that is what I have seen.
