I have seen several places that vROPS can intiate workflows in vRO but I have yet to see how to connect them. I searched the solution exchange and didn't see an adapter and I did not see anything in the documentation for vROPS unless it is using the REST notification plugin. Thanks!
Hi, ftlaylor99. Did you check this out?
vCO Remediation Workflow Package for vCOPs
Cloud Management Marketplace | Solution Exchange
It works like this : vR Ops Alert -> Send SNMP trap to vRO -> vRO starts a workflow
Regards,
Ho-Sung
That's for vCOPS 5.x. vROPS 6 is supposed to have a native integration with vRO. Can't figure out how to configure it though.
There isn't actually out of the box capabilities to connect vROps with Orchestrator.
What's available is the "python remediation adapter" which provides a bunch of actions instead, but those are not-extensible.
That's rather disappointing.... the SNMP way isn't ideal.
I see we can create REST notifications. But those are just simple webhooks and can't kick off a workflow.
I don't see the added value of non extensible python scripts. Why use a scripting language if we cannot change or add our own scripts? And why choose python in the first place? Everybody running vSphere has vRO for free. So why no native integration with vRO which can do anything and forget about other REST integration or python scripts? If somebody wants to call another REST API he could do it from vRO. Would make the product a lot simpler: one type of action: vRO workflow. Handle all else from there.
Oh well. I guess I'll extend my node.js app I created to link Docker Hub to vRO to include an vROPS endpoint.
Hi,
Please take a look at the custom rest notification plugin, you can call VRO workflows automatically when alarms trigger
This is not a Management Pack, its an outbound notification plugin:
Information are here: http://pierrelx.com/?p=373
cheers!

Agreed native integration or a simpler way of hooking into vRO is preferable and is heading down that path. until then as well as the previously mentioned methods SMTP is another option if your looking for something supportable.
I have used this in a number of places to specifically target particular events and most of what you need is already available in vRO.
