vCOPs vs vRealize Ops????

I had believed that vRealize OPs was just a "rebranding" of vCOPs.

Then today I tried to install an eval copy of vCOPs for a customer, and could only find trial downloads for vRealize ops 6.0 and ... when we installed it I looked like an idiot, because it is SO DIFFERENT.

No vAPP? Only one VM? The installer seems pretty sweet, and what I saw of the initial interface looks pretty ok, but the question:

Is vRealize Ops 6.0 just a rebranding - so in other words this is what would have been the 6.0 version of vCOPs, but the name changed?

It seemed like there were custom dashboards available using what was a "standard" eval license. Has that changed?

A good overview of what's new/different can be found here: Introducing vRealize Operations 6.0 - Delivering Intelligent Operations From Apps to Storage | VMwar...

vRealize Operations 6 is more than just a rebranding.

vC Ops was rebranded vRealize Operations Manager (vR Ops) a month or two before the GA of vR Ops v6. If you install v6, that is the new architecture. If you install v5.x, that is the old. The links and topics in the VMware menus get a little misleading since oftentimes you'll see vRealize Operations Manager and vCenter Operations Manager listed side-by-side. Whatever the methodology of categorizing these names, obviously there was a little bit of confusion given the release of a new version in addition to the name change just-before. That name change hit all of the Operations Manager suite, so that further adds to the naming challenges. If you'll notice, the download areas of vmware.com get a little confusing as well with variance in products vs product suites containing varying versions- IMO one splash-page should have all versions of the products, v5.x-v6.x.

I wish there were a "table of features" so that we could see side by side what new elements are available in vRealize.

I guess we just need to think about it as: the old version and the new version. Really there is no reason to even think about deploying the vCOPs framework now, as vReralize is the next thing
