Hello,
I am trying to run Kali Linux through VMWare and every time I run it I get the same message.
CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 0C 29 D7 8F 2E GUID: 564D8922-E0C9-F2C7-0ACB=22023AD78F2E
PXE-E53: No boot filename recived
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
Operating System not Found
I'm hoping somebody knows how to fix this.
Thank you.
(I use windows 😎
You'r using a ISO to boot Kali Linux or a image for VMware ?
I'm using an ISO file.
I was wondering if Kali Linux just isn't compatible with this version of VMware. Since when you create a new create a new virtual machine it does not recognize the operating system. Also, when i go to select a guest operating system there is no Kali Linux to be selected.
Which VMware product you're using ? VMware Player, Workstation, vSphere ESXi ?
Take a look here: Kali Linux Howto's: Complete Guide On How To Install Kali Linux In VMware
I am using VMware Player and it does say when i have a VM selected (The same screen where you press "Play Virtual Machine") Version: "Workstation 10.0 virtual machine"
Also, on the link you gave me, if you look at step 4 (the part right above step 5) it says "Debian 7 64-bit Detected." Mine does not do this, it says "Could not detect which operating system is in this disc image. You will need to specify which operating system will be installed." So when I go to select an operating system Kali Linux does not show up as an option. I have tried selecting every option on the list (Linux and non-Linux) and the same error comes up every time i run it.
If you need any screenshots or, computer specs/information.
Thank you
Did you checked the SHA1SUM for the ISO that you downloaded ? Another option is select "I Will Install the Operating System Later", on the next screen select Linux -> Debian 7 64-bit and after VM creation click on Edit Virtual Machine Settings, on Hardware tab select CD/DVD, click on Use ISO image and point to ISO that you downloaded and at Device Status make sure Connect and Connect at Power On are checked.
I have just tried what you have suggested and i still got the same result... The SHA1SUM for my download is f1a064c41031b930ce0cdb9fd639cda5b4c6bca2 i am not exactly sure if that is helpful or what is even for. I was wondering if there were older versions of VMWare i could try to use and if you could get me a link for the download(s.) I can't seem to find any myself.
Bro!
I also need help i have the same error... I you found
something useful please pm me
I'm also having this exact same problem.
I chose Installer disc image file (iso) and received this error message:
"could not detect which operating system is in this disc image. You will need to specify which operating system will be installed."
I then chose
I Will Install the Operating System Later
'Guest Operating System' - Linux
version: Debian 7.x 64-bit
When I click 'Play Virtual Machine' I get the error 'Operating System not installed.
I also made sure CD/DVD, was set to click on Use ISO image and point to ISO that I downloaded and at Device Status Connected and Connect at Power On are checked.
Have you checked the SHA1SUM of the ISO to make sure it matches the one given on https://www.kali.org/downloads/?

I too had the same problem... Please ensure that the .iso file is properly downloaded by checking its size
I have the same problem, yet I don't know how to find the ISO. I downloaded a .DMG file
These are common problems we face while installing Kali Linux on VMware. VMware needs a complete configuration according to the system spec. But read this article on Installing Kali Linux on Vmware Workstation. It will definitely help you.
