Cleaning up old resources doesn't seem to work

We have a lot of old virtual machine resources we'd like to clean out of our VCOPS environment, but despite having controller.properties stanzas like below (as recommended in KB 2020638) and restarting vcops-admin, no resources ever seem to be deleted:

#automatically delete not existing resources

deleteNotExisting=true

#time in hours an object must be in the not existing state before it can be deleted

deletionPeriodInHours=168

#time in hours between resource deletion scheduling

deletionSchedulePeriod=24

I see these lines in admin.log but I don't know if they're related:

Oct 10, 2014 11:05:04 AM - User system Deleted 20 Resources.

Oct 10, 2014 11:05:06 AM - User system Deleted 20 Resources.

Oct 10, 2014 11:05:08 AM - User system Deleted 20 Resources.

Even if it did delete 60 resources at one point, there are hundreds of VMs with no metrics, with relationships to vCenters that don't exist.

Have you waited 192 hours since the last vcops service restart? On which VM did you modify this file?

The orphaned VMs you refer to, are they from a VMWARE adapter that still alive and collecting?

If you find this or any other answer useful please mark the answer as correct or helpful.

Thanks Mark I think you identified the problem; I had updated controller.properties on the UI VM and not the analytics VM.
