This is possibly a stupid idea, but I have a Win8.1 host with several guests on an internal SSD. I also have a large external drive. I wondered if I could set up windows file history to take "backups" of my VMs once a day, or whenever, so that if the workstation dies, goes missing etc then I still have my VMs and can restore from there. I could probably use a "real" backup program but i am trying to keep the footprint of both my host and guests to a minimum - hence using stuff baked into the host OS.
Just how bad an idea is this? Would the VMs actually back up this way?
