Copy / paste in virtual machine results in Workstation 10.0.4 crash.

Set up:

VMware Workstation 10.0.4 on a Windows 8.1 64 bit host with 16 GB RAM

2 x Virtual machines running Windows 8.1 64 bit with 4 GB RAM each

Problem:

  1. Start up both virtual machines in Workstation.
  2. Open Windows Explorer on one of the virtual machines, and start a file copy using CTRL - C, but do not press CTRL - V to finish the file copy.
  3. Switch to the other virtual machine -> The host operating system shows immediately "VMware Workstation stopped working" and VMware Workstation is shut down.

It appears that only the Workstation user interface is shut down: Both vm's are still running when Workstation is re-started on the host.

The issue has been confirmed on two different installations of Workstation.

Can anybody else confirm this issue?

I know that I can disable copy and paste in the VMware Workstation settings, and that copy and paste is not possible when connected remote to a shared vm.

However, I often use copy and paste between the host and the virtual machines.

Furthermore:

  • It is not shared virtual machines.
All vm's are running locally and are not shared.
  • I want to be able to copy and paste between virtual mashines.
I know that I cannot copy/paste files between vm's using CTRL - C / CTRL - V, but accidently switching between virtual machine after pressing CTRL - C on a file should definitely not crash Workstation.

I have been using VMware Workstation since "forever" (Workstation 2), have always had copy and paste enabled (as long as it has been supported, if not always) and I have never before observed these crashes.

I have the same issue. Not fixed in Workstation 11. See the above thread.

Same problem here...

I'm using Workstation 11 on Windows 8.1 Pro (i7-2600K, 16 GB RAM, nVidia GTX670). I have to copy and paste through the host.
