Maximum cluster size with 2xHBA (2 paths per HBA)?

Hello

I would like to qualify my understand with someone.

We are running LUN storage where I work and there are 2 HBAs per host with 2 paths per HBA. As there are 4 active paths to a LUN does this mean my maximum supported cluster size is 8?

4 paths x 8 = 32 paths to the LUN (maximum supported)

what are my options for bigger clusters?

Any advice appreciated

From where do you get the 32 paths to the LUN (maximum supported) ? If it was from vSphere 5.5 Configuration Maximums, this number refer to the maximum number of paths to an LUN per server, not for entire cluster.

The maximum cluster size at version 5.5 is 32 hosts per cluster... each host supports a total of 1024 paths and a maximum number of 32 paths to a specific LUN, if you are using 4 paths per LUN, the maximum number of LUNs per host will be 256... the te size of cluster will still be 32 hosts.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I was under the impression it was 32 paths maximum to any storage LUN not per host as this isnt obviously explained.

It looks like we can run bigger clusters as long as the 256 LUNs are not exceeded (is the 1024 LUN paths the same in 5.0?)

I am looking at maximums for 5.x but they are the same for cluster size and paths to a LUN maximum from what I read.

thanks

Yes and limit are the same for 5.0: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r50/vsphere-50-configuration-maximums.pdf
