    Update Manager 1.0u6 update_metadata.xml file

    DBagini Novice

Without going into a long tale of woe, can anybody tell me where update manager gets new update_metadata.xml files from?

It is created new in my D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data\hostupdate whenever the update manager service is restarted, but where does it come from?

I am asking because there is an issue with update manager where it appears to be trying to download patches that have been removed (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026435)

I have followed all of the instructions and even gone as far as using sql studio to delete the database to make 100% sure it is re-created, but I keep getting the same issue ('httpDownload' 4592 ERROR]  [httpDownload, 762] Error retrieving document 'http://download3.vmware.com/software/production/release-0576-20130219/ESX-3.5.0-contents.zip'. Unhandled status code: 404).

It seems the update_metadata.xml tells the system where to download the patches, and that has the wrong details even after I go into the database tables and delete entries from [VIM_UMDB].[dbo].[VCI_UPDATES] for the failing patches.

So where does this invalid update_metadata.xml come from?

      Thanks in advance.
