EMC Recoverpoint for datastore replication

We have implemented a basic storage replication DR model (nothing maintaining VM consistency so a lot of steps at cutover). Datastore LUN replication using EMC VNX and RecoverPoint. We are stopping replication and adding the LUN to the destination ESXi Host Storage Group.

I'm not familiar with RecoverPoint but, initilally I thought I would need to unmount and detach the Datastores/LUNs prior to resuming replication. My storage team said that removing the LUN from the destination wasn't a strict requirement to resume replication but the LUN would be in a read-only state until replication was halted again.

If this is the case, we would remove all VMs from inventory but, leave the destination LUNs presented to the destination Hosts so we don't have to process them with each DR test. Does anyone have any expertise or guidance with this type of scenerio? I would think it would be fine but, I didn't know if ESXi would choke on those LUNs in that state or start filling the logs etc?

So basically the answer is to buy SRM and then you can have the answer:).

Jeremy is correct but I want you to simply understand that here replication means storage team assign two LUN's from different site Storage device for replication. one LUN1 will be mounted to Your Production site Vcenter environment and another LUN2 will be mounted to your DR site VCenter environment which might be totally different Storage and different LUN ID. So what they do they Will use recovery Point appliance to replicate the data from LUN1 to LUN2 continuously. in a simple understanding-way,  if you want to have the data in a particular time they manually will break the replication and you can use the LUN2 in DR site . but how ever as Jeremy mentioned above everything can be automated by VMware SRM. what it does once you trigger the DR, it will automatically break the replication and complete other tasks. Break the replication means: technically the Recovery point appliance will take each and every second or minute snapshot of LUN1 and will copy it to LUN2. so according to that time you can have Data. below shows typical SRA replication
