Just installed Yosemite GM3 at imac Mid2011 i5/8GB/256SSD and Fusion 7 Pro. Installed Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Installation was straight forward - no issues. After the first windows updates. VMX process became more than 100% at host system. Windows 7 VM absoultly shows NO performance. But when I´m moving the mouse the VM gets performance ??? Tried to stop autoupdate from windows. Tried several CPU and RAM configurations. Nothing changed..... Any clever idea ?
Disable system restore and antivirus in the guest - both can cause this problem during updates.
no change. I also tried now to install Win7-32bit. Same problem from beginning. No performance in VM (until I move the mouse). 100% CPU at host
I'm experiencing the exact same thing. I'm running windows 8.1 on Mid 2011 iMac. 16GB of Memory, 3.4GHz i7. No performance until I move the mouse around.
total frustrating. I figured out it has nothing to do with the guest operating system. Tried diferent Windows Versions. I also tried Parallels -> same issue. So I guess its something about Yosemite GM3
Hopefully the final release of Yosemite will fix the issue, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Hi,
A bit of a stab in the dark, but have you tried changing the way the mouse behaves under Fusion -> Preferences -> Gaming
The setting "never optimize mouse for games" would seem like the most logical one for you, but in your case I would try all settings.
hope this helps,

Tried all the settings to no avail. It definitely has something to do with Yosemite.
yes - It looks like a Yosemite bug. because same troubles with parallels and different windows versions. Maybe just a problem with these specific imacs
Yeah, I've tried it on my 2014 MacBook and it works fine. Maybe our iMac's are too old!
Same issue here.
I have iMac mid 2011 and rMBP late 2013. rMBP works fine with Fusion 7 with Yosemite GM3.
Only at iMac VM is very very sluggish... Tried everything; reinstalling vmware tools, downgrade to vm version 10, etc.
As far as GM2 it was OK with both Fusion 6 and 7.
iMac 2011 + GM3 + Fusion 7 = disaster, until now.
Solved..! ... for now.
Try 'repair permission' at Disk Utility.
I actually solved the problem using this forum post from parallels: Parallels 10 running slow on Yosemite | Parallels Forums
Running this command at the terminal window: udo nvram boot-args="debug=0xd4e" then reboot.
Thanks,
E
I have the same problem with VMWare Fusion 6 and 7 on an iMac i7.
I removed the VMWare tools from the Guest OS and CPU usage dropped to normal levels: 2.4%
interesting that none of these posts indicate if this command is run in the guest or on the host.
I would *guess* it would be on the guest.
Ok, after 20 minutes of trying to get the terminal to respond (solid spinner up the whole time) ...
I've done this command on the guest and rebooted.
The behavior is the same.
I'll go try on the host now.
Love guessing.
Ok, I've done this command on both the host and the guest... no change.
Retina 15" Late 2013.
2.3 GHz i7
16GB RAM
Yosemite 10.10 mac app store version
What I see in the guest is that it seems to run for a spurt, then freeze for a long period, then run for a spurt, then freeze.
I've tried playing games with moving the mouse... moving the mouse in and out of the guest... sometimes it vmware seems to freeze up the host so bad I had to press the power button to get the shutdown popup menu -- then sometimes I get my mouse back... or I try to click and wait to get my mouse back... sometimes minutes -- with everything frozen.
At this point, the product is unusable.

Scott, I had to complete remove the VMWare tools from the Virtual Machine and CPU usage went back to normal. Then I installed VMWare tools again and it is still normal.
If you want to give a try, don't REPAIR, complete remove then install back again. Repairing didn't work for me.

nice to see some life here. Let's see if we can find some work around until this gets fixed.
I did install the vmware tools -- not sure how to remove those... I'll look it up.
When you say don't repair -- what do you mean?
It took me hours to install the guest OS, so I really don't want to have to try to do that each time to guess something that might work.
I'll go and try to remove the vmware tools now... might take an hour.

ok, edit #1 -- to "uninstall" VMWARE tools -- you have to select to install them again -- and when the installer runs, there is a choice to uninstall.
Go to menu Virtual Machine/Reinstall VMWare Tools. That will make the VMWare tools installation available in the Guest OS.
Then Run the installation and it will ask you if you want to remove, repair, etc. Remove it and reboot.
After reboot CPU should be back to normal, then run the installation again and install it.
Let me know if it works.
After reboot, no change... in fact, I can't even log in now
I click a few times on my log in icon and eventually get the button to type my password and I submit -- then I just get a spinner... never ends.
Now, whenever I click on the log in icon, I just get a spinner... whenever I do anything in the guest -- I just get a spinner (and it eventually locks up) and I have to kill vmware and restart.
It seems to run a little, if I move the mouse in and out of the guest...
not sure what I can do at this point. I haven't been able to get the guest to let me log in again...
You can also try to run this in the terminal of your mac: sudo nvram boot-args="debug=0xd4e” from this link http://forum.parallels.com/threads/parallels-10-running-slow-on-yosemite.326205/
I also ran it here and got better but not back to normal until I uninstalled VMWare tools. Might be a combination of both that fixed my problem.
