Is a new Virtual Center required for a Horizon View 6 deployment / Licencing questions

Hey all,

Just curious if it is required or best practice to install a separate virtual center for your Horizon View environment or if it is okay to tie it into your existing VC.

Also from the reading I've done it looks like when you buy Horizon View 6 Advanced you get the ESXi licenses as well?  Is this true.

When it comes to the Windows 7 licensing do you h ave to purchase anything from VMware for your VDI's or do you just get an Open Licence / SA with Microsoft for Windows 7/8

I think business and projections decisions will make this for you.   Some environments have separate teams that manage desktops and server infrastructure.  In these scenarios you may want to have a dedicated instance for VDI and the desktop team.     In other environments you may be a small shop where a couple of technicians do it all.   In this environment it may be ok to have a single vCenter.     I always hate the it depends answers but in this case it really does depend on your environment and how you want to manage it.

2:   According to the comparison on the site all the editions come with vSphere and vCenter for desktop.    I read that as you are correct but I would check with a VMware licensing specialist.

3:   VMware just wants you to have the required View and vSphere licenses.  They don't do any checks on your Microsoft licenses.
