Does anybody know if deduplicated NTFS and EXT4 will be supported in next version of VDP (or VDPA)?
Wondering the same thing.
Anyone know?
VMware doesn't really like announcing stuff like this before the release, so I don't expect you to find official answers.

You're probably right. I'm thinking it's coming because the appliance is based on EMC's Avamar and I believe they support it.
I guess we just wait and see.
FYI, a little searching and I answer the question. HAHA!
Apparently VDP v5.8 brings support for EXT4:

It is now possible to deploy external proxies with VDP Advanced enabling more efficient backups in remote locations where the VDP Advanced appliance does not have direct access to the storage on which protected VMs are running, e.g., a separate cluster or remote site. An external proxy also supports VMs with Linux Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and EXT4 file systems.

Thanks for your searching job. Hopely some mention about deduplicated NTFS will appear as well.
Unfortunately all this statements only seem to be valid for the paid VDP advanced version, not the normal VDP, which is included in the vSphere licenses
Wow, that would be insane if EXT4 support was only with the VDP-A (licensed version).
Try Nakivo Backup & Replication FLR... you'll never want to see VDP ugly's face again. It supports ntfs, ext3/ext4 and xfs. You dont need vCenter server to access the WebGUI and manage your backup jobs. It also support deduplication, compression and a lot of other stuff that works for real... and not like that bad joke called VDP.
Thanks for the tip. I'll try it.
