VMware Tools Service not Working on Secondary Virtual Server

Hi All,

I have Primary Server as Physical and Secondary Server is VM , On Secondary server VMware Tools are Installed but not running I tried to Start the service and I got following error.

The VMware Tools service terminated with the following error:

Incorrect function.

Is this normal behavior that on Secondary server doesn't run VM services , Further i Checked there is registry value for VMware Tools.

thats not like it should be. We have the same setup and the tools are running on the secondary (virtual) server.

Did you install heartbeat with or without tools installed?

Because you should install it without tools installed. I remember something that an regkey was missing on the secondary server that prevents the tools to start. Check Windows log and vmtools log file

Hi,

Thanks , I added Registry key as it was missing and now VMware tools are working fine until restart , once i restarted VM , registry removed  and VMware tools service stopped.

Hi,

i know. Thats the magic of replication. Add only this key to the primary server as well.

After that, the tools should run fine. But that is only a workaround.

or, build and exclude for replication for that reg key.
