Install a new vcenter Server

Hello together,

I have a quick question regarding my VMware setup.

At the moment we have an active vCenter installed with version 5.0 and will soon update to version 5.5.

Before doing that, we want to implement an pilot project of VMware Horizon View with a seperate vCenter server actual version (5.5).

Now I want install the new vCenter server for Horizon View withs it's new features (SSO, Inventory etc.).

So would this be a problem if I do this now, and update my other vcenter Server later to the current version?

And would it be good, to install the SSO Server component to a seperate machine??

Thanks for some suggestions.

Hi,

in my opinion it depends on how is your environment actually designed and if you are using features like Linked mode multisite SSO etc.

You can always have separate vCenter server with dedicated portion of hosts for your pilot like you have in testing environment.

The main question is how much you want to mix these releases together...

For SSO interoperability with later products have a look at this blog:

As other refference see:

VMware KB:     In a mixed vSphere 5.1/5.5 environment, logging in to the vSphere Web Client fails wi...

VMware KB:     Supported vCenter Single Sign-On 5.5 configuration and interoperability with vSphere ...

And would it be good, to install the SSO Server component to a seperate machine??

Yes i.e. for better resiliency between vCenter server and SSO server (see: vCenter Single Sign-On Deployment Modes)
