Configuring VMware Adapter

Hi all,

Is it possible to change the collection interval of resources through configuring the settings of the adapters?

I'm using VMware as the adapter kind of my resources right now.

If it is a yes, can you guys provide me with some guidelines or kb to reference? I have no idea which one is the adapter I need to configure.

Files under /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/user/plugins/inbound

DO NOT edit these files.

In the Custom UI, go to the Environment Overview, then filter the tags to view the adapter instances. When you go to edit the adapter instance, you'll see a field to set the collection interval, which by default is every 5min for VMware vCenter adapters.

Negative. Search b y resourcekind "vCenter Server".. those are the adapter instances.

Got it, can i use the same credential for adapter I'm using right now, if I decided to collect 2 set of data from a resource, 1 with 5 min interval and 1 with 30 min interval?

Or would I have to create a separate credential for it?

Why would you have two adapters pulling the same stats from the same vCenter? I don't recommend this. If you want to adjust intervals, you can do so at a resource or resourcekind level if the adapter instance level is too general... so instance collecting 5min, but some resources 30min.

Reason behind is I want to be able to show high level trend for the boss, and at the same time retaining the data as it could be handy in troubleshooting.

Its not possible to show different VM for the same metrics for the past week with 5 min collection interval, that's simple not readable.

It sounds to be like you would want to use the Planning metrics for your boss and the other metrics for yourself. The Planning metrics are rolled up a good bit for those trends as you describe.

I've checked the planning metrics, all show no data available.

How long does vcops has to collect information before it can show planning metrics information?
Since I am still evaluating vcops's functionality, I am restarting the service quite often.

How should I config the interval for resource level metrics? I'm seeing it in environment overview, select the resource and edit the interval, but its seems not working.

Planning metrics calc 1-2x per day.. you probably were looking at a 1hr/6hr graph, during which likely nothing will appear. Change the time period to 24hrs or more and you'll see the data points.
