Hi,
I am new to VM environment so please excuse the newbie questions.
I created a VM machine on a laptop (A) and I am trying to remote desktop from another laptop (B) to the VM and I am unable to do so. Checked the Remote Desktop settings, and I have Allow remote to the machine checked.
I have followed directions from http://geekswithblogs.net/NewThingsILearned/archive/2009/11/13/connect-to-vmware-virtual-machines-us...
I cannot seem to ping the VM from the laptop (B), however, when pinging the laptop (B) from the VM, works. Also, I can remote into the laptop (B) from the VM machine.
Another issue is that I can't seem to connect to the VM machine from Windows Explorer from Laptop (A), using \\Machine Name\C$.
I appreciate looking to this!
Thanks!
Your NAT configuration doesn't seem to be correct!? You are forwarding your host port 9997 to 192.168.123.16:443. However the NAT network is 192.168.142.0 and your VM has IP address 192.168.142.128, so the forwarding should go to 192.168.142.128 Port 3389.
For the C$ access try to use the VM's IP address (unless you can ensure the VM's name can be resolved properly).
Try e.g:
net use * \\192.168.142.128\c$ /u:dpm6400cf-vm\administrator *
and enter the password when prompted.

Welcome to the Community,
How exactly did you configure the VM's network settings (Bridged/NAT)? Can you confirm that the VM's firewall doesn't block traffic?
André
Hi André,
Thank you for the fast response!
I configured the VM to NAT. Also the firewall is turned off.
Cristian
Just to add something...
When I try to connect via \\Machine Name\C$, I get the screen for Enter network password, but looks like my credentials do not work. I am using the same user name and password that i use to log in the VM.
For the Remote Desktop Access, please provide your NAT configuration (port forwarding settings), and /or ensure that you are trying to connect to the host's IP address using the configured "Host Port".
Btw. which Windows version/edition do you use for the guest OS? Not all editions support Remote Desktop Access and access to network shares.
André
I am using Win7 Professional.
See below for screen shots.
Tx!

André,
I will give it a shot and change the settings around. I will let you know if that fixed the issue.
Thanks again for your help!
Cristian
André,
Re-configuring the NAT did the trick. Now it works like a charm!!! Thank you for that!!!
For some odd reason I still cannot connect via Widows Explorer. Using net use gives me the error 67 the network name cannot be found.
Now I'm going to the next step in my process and I want to have a duplicate copy of this VM so I can install different versions of the software that I'm testing, I've used the clone option. Will it be the same process to remote into the clone machine? Is there a better way of doing this, besides creating a new VM and reinstall all the applications all over again?
Thanks!
Cristian
Cloning should do, just make sure you assign another hostname and IP address to the cloned VM.
For the net use issue, please run the net share command in the VM to find out which shares are available.
André
André,
I had opened a remote session to another laptop and I was able to connect via \\Machine Name\C$. Looks like I cannot do that on the host machine (where the VM is installed) but that's not a big deal.
Thank you again for your help and support!
