Upgrade VM Hardware Version and Tools of VMware Appliances

I use vSphere 5.5 U1 and some VMware Appliances. After Upgrade from 5.1 U1 to 5.5 U1 I begin to upgrade the Hardware Version and VMware Tools of the VMs. Now the Question is if I should upgrade the VMware Appliances or not? I know to not upgrade the Hardware Version from the vCenter Server Appliance because of not editable with the GOOD! old vSphere Client. Whats about the other VMs and the VMware Tools?

My VMware Appliances:

VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 Update 1b (VM version 9, VMware Tools version: 2147483647 (3rd-party/Independent))

VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5.6 (VM version 7, VMware Tools version: 2147483647 (3rd-party/Independent))

VMware vCenter Orchestrator Appliance 5.5.1 (VM version 7, VMware Tools version: 2147483647 (3rd-party/Independent))

VMware vCenter Operations Manager Foundation 5.8.2 (VM version 7, VMware Tools version: 8384

What is reason to upgrade to newer version?

Is it just to stay updated? or you actually need the functionality that are offered in the latest versions?

If it is just to stay updated i would suggest you to not do it. Raise a ticket VMware and see what they have to say about it.
